Isolation was carried out by extraction of the root bark of the plant using n hexane and fractionated by column. chromatography using a series of eluents with polarity. A tricyclic sesquiterpene alcohol C15H26O, melting point 124-125°C, was obtained from the benzene fraction, while two other compounds were obtained from the benzene fraction derived from the tree bark. Liebermann-Buchard test showed^ that both compounds were steroids. The first compound, melting point of 129-130°C, was found to be a mixture, which could not be separated. While the second compound melting point of 134-136°C, is still under investigation. text |
