Several pulps were used for the experiments obtained from pulping of various raw materialsby diffe rent cooking methods. Inner structural changes are interpreted in terms of water sorption ability and crystallinity measured by X-ray diffraction. Attempts have been made to correlate the crystallinity and the accessibility of cellulose for moisture and for water in rewetting. The sorption ability for moisture is expressed by the moisture content and moisture regain-of the sample, whereas water sorption in rewetting is measured as bound water by differential scanning calorimeter. Methods of X-ray Crystallinity measurements are discussed. The results suggest that a cellulose pulp which have a higher crystallinity absorps more moisture and more water. For the pulps dried at different temperatures, due to different inner structural alterations, no constant changes on these characteristics occur. X-ray diffraction does not cause any inner structural alterations as does the swelling. <br /> text |
