Summary:Facing the fuel oil and gas scarcity in upcoming years which will be inflating its prices and inline with current Indonesia government policy (Peraturan Presiden RI No. 5 Tahun 2003) concerning to fuel diversity, it is time to emphasize our attention to convertion of MFO to coal in steam power plant.<p>This research conducted by literature study, visited field of steam power plant, modeling of mass and heat balance, modeling and simulation oil and coal fired boiler, economic analysis and reporting. Regarding to ash content in coal is higher than fuel oil, dimension of coal fired bolier is normally larger than fuel oil fired boiler. As consequency of fuel conversion from MFO to coal, existing boiler should be replaced with a new coal fired boiler. Coal and ash handling system should also be installed to support coal fired boiler.<p>Combustion simulation in oil and coal fired boiler indicated that the flue gas average temperature at inlet Air Heater (outlet Economizer) 653 K (380oC) dan 658 K (385oC), which are closed to the data design 350-400 oC. Economic evaluation indicated that Break Event Point (BEP) at 5th year, Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR) = 2,34 dan Internal Rate of Return (IRR) 38% at 20th year. <br />
