Summary: | Water is the most important and very determining element for the sustainability of life on earth. Water shortage can lead to drought and clean water crisis as experienced by most communities in Gunungkidul regency. To deal with the drought and guarantee the availability of clean water for Gunungkidul community, in 2004 the Bribin Cave underground river dam was constructed with an investment of Rp 108 billion. This research aims to find out the effectiveness of the Bribin Cave underground river dam in guaranteeing the availability of clean water in Gunungkidul regency.<p>The effectivenees of the Bribin Cave underground river dam was measured by conducting Benefit-Cost Ratio Analysis (BCR). The analysis was conducted on the total investment originated from grants from the Government of Germany and Indonesia with total of Rp 108 billion, and investment issued by the government of Indonesia with a total of Rp 38 billion.<p>For an investment of Rp 108 billion, the BCR is smaller than 1 (BCR<1), whereas for an investment of Rp 38 billion, the BCR is bigger then/equal to 1 (BCR≥1). Furthermore, the effectivenees of the Bribin Cave underground river dam was also observed from the tariff of minimum service which was charged to the community and the average of community WTP on the tariff of clean water service.<p>Based on the designated indicator, the effort to guarantee the availability of clean water for the community through the construction of underground river dam can only be effective if it accompanied by grant from other party. <br />
