Description
Summary:Hairs have important functions, one of them is to improve perfomances. Many ways have been done to improve performances by making hairs look beautiful such as using natural products. Natural products that can be used for this purpose are waru (Hibiscus tilliaceus L.) and mangkokan leaves (Nothopanax scutellarius [Burm.f.] Merr.). In this research, the effect of ethanol extracts of both leaves on hair growth and hair thickness were tested. Ethanol extracts of waru and mangkokan leaves were characterized and screened. Both extracts were prepared into several certain doses of ointment with vaseline flavum as its bases. Their effects on hair growth and thickness and also dermal and eye irritation tests were conducted in male white rabbits. Ointment of extracts of mangkokan leaves at a concentration of 10% w/w showed hair growth promoter effect compared to control (p<0,05). Ointment of waru leaves extracts at a concentration of 1% w/w showed hair thickening effect. Combination of both extracts (a half and a quarter dose) showed equal effect on hair growth with 1% of waru extracts ointment. A half dose of combination showed equal effect on hair thickness with 10% of mangkokan extracts ointment. Ointment preparations of both extracts did not cause irritations to rabbits's skin and eyes.
