Description
Summary:<p align="justify">Overcurrent protection is needed in power system. A good protection system is achieved if all pairs of relay (primary and backup) coordinated properly. In radial system, relay coordination could do in an easy way, but it is more complex to deal with interconnected power system that involved many source and bus. So we need an optimization method to make it done. This thesis is explaining how to optimize an overcurrent relay coordination problem using nonlinear programming. All coordination equation in a form of nonlinear function, pickup current and TMS are parameter to be considered as value which optimized. The objective function is sum of all relays operating time, which are satisfied coordination criteria. This method is tested to radial system, IEEE 8 bus system and IEEE 30 bus system. The result shown that optimization technique using nonlinear programming can solve relay coordination problem of interconnected power system efficiently, fast and simultaneously, and also nonlinear programming method shown that relay operation time is faster than linear programming method.
