Summary:Anacar di c acid has been isolated from the natural -CNSL of Ar cardiwm. occiderLale Lirr by column chromatography using petroleum ether C 40-60°C7 : diethyl ether : formic acid = 70: 30:2 as the eluent . It gave yellowish thick liquid Thin layer chromatographic analysis with the same eluernt showed one spot C Rf = 0,78 3; while analysis by high performance liquid chromatography on ODS-C18 column with eluent MeOH : HOAc 4% = 85:15 showed three main components. Hydrogenation of the isolated anacardic acid by Raneynickel catalyst, was done in two ways : with and without the addition of hydrogen. The latter method gave 98,85% white crystals with melting point 84 - 85°C. High performance liquid chromatographic analysis showed two peaks with different retention times compared to those of the parent compounds. The mayor compound C95%D very probable C15:03 anacardic acid; while the minor product was suggested as the (13:0) anacardic acid. These conclusions were evaluated from the 1H-NMR spectrum of the hydrogenated anacardic acid which showed no peak of of of i ni c bond. A mass spectroscopic analysis should be further investigated
