It uses Fast Fourier transform algorithm to acquire the orthogonally signal. However, the orthogonal signal can also be acquired by applying wavelet-based algorithm. Different to the FFT that uses sinusoid as base function, wavelet can be implemented by using filter, i.e. both low pass and high pass filter. This final project focuses on one of the wavelet algorithms, which is called wavelet packet transforms (WPT). This algorithm analyses not only the approximation signal but also the detail signal.<p align="justify"><p>This final project is aimed to evaluate the comparison on the performance of OFDM signal by using both algorithms in ideal (AWGN) and fading channels. Besides, the performance of the system in the presence of a nonlinear amplifier, phase noise, and effect of number of levels is also evaluated. Especially for WPT, the effect of mother wavelet employed by the algorithm and the system complexity are also evaluated.<p align="justify"><p>The simulation shows that both algorithms give identical performance result on AWGN and fading channels. BER of the system depends on the modulation technique used, i.e. QPSK. This is also the case for the effect of nonlinearity amplifier and the presence of phase noise. Number of levels is determined by the condition of the channel. Meanwhile, mother wavelet directly affects the system complexity, but does not have any implications on the BER of the system. <br /> text
