Description
Summary:One of the many applications of solar radiation technology is in flat plate solar water heater. Unfortunately, this type of solar water heater is still considered costly. Therefore an innovation to produce hot water for home use by a simpler and less expensive method is needed.
This final project concerns with design and production processes of a cylindrical integrated solar water heater with horizontal arrangement. The basic concept of the design is to integrate the function of the absorber with water tank outer surface and using an additional inner cylinder to create an annulus system. Experimental study in real condition is made to obtain the maximum temperature achieved by the system. Result of the experimental study shows that water temperature reached up to 45.5 oC on a sunny day and 29.1 oC on a cloudy day. Daily efficiency of the system through out the experiment is 43%.
A test of cylindrical integrated solar water heater with vertical arrangement is done parallel with the experiment of the horizontal arrangement to learn the effect of device orientation to water temperature and system performance. Based on this experiment, there is no significant difference in water temperature and system performance between the vertical and horizontal arrangement. But we can conclude that the horizontal arrangement has a faster response to temperature rise compared to the vertical arrangement.
