Bearing this trend, an integrated communication service, equipped with special features as its added value is needed. This featured service is a Location Based Service (LBS). LBS is a communication service for users of mobile devices. It is a result of a process function, using the users' geographical information.<p align="justify"><p>From the LBS concept, instant messenger for mobile devices is created. Using this feature, users can communicate through sending real time text messages. Users can also view and publicize profile data as well as viewing the coordinate location of the other users. In this application system, server acts as the main controller, processor, and data retriever from all of the communication activities. Apart from carrying out these tasks, server also functions to process GPS data retrieved from the users' application features. The GPS data will generate location information for the users by previewing it as a website.<p align="justify"><p>The application program in the server to handle instant messaging and its features is created using Wildfire software. Next, the application to process and to preview the location (coordinate) information is created through MS4W and programming language, PHP/Map Script. These instant messenger applications are tested using computer network infrastructures in Bandung Institute of Technology. Clients can access the server using WLAN service or other internet connections. The implementation shows that this application has these features; an instant messaging application, which can respond jabber request from clients, and a web server application, which can preview its own location and the searched users' location in a website. <br /> text |
