Summary:Increasing of world energy demand no longer can be fulfilled by conventional energy resource like oil and gas. Oil and Gas reserve are limited, with the result that on high demand occur price booming and rare of goods. Government and NGO in almost every country then race to produce energy from new and renewable energy resources defending their national energy stability. One of the renewable energy resources that become favorite is wind energy.<p> <br /> <br /> <br /> Wind energy conversion system act in converting wind energy into primary energy that consumable by the people. Wind energy conversion system can be operate on natural wind velocity or by using wind that caused by the passing vehicle on the highway.<p> <br /> <br /> <br /> This research design, making and testing prototype of wind energy conversion system using savonius and windside rotor that will be placed at median of the highway. This wind energy conversion system act to produce electricity for highway illumination and at the same time replace the function of light blockers at median of the highway. This research proposes many alternatives of wind rotor, transmission system and generator and then testing it. Wind energy conversion system that has been chosen as a prototype consists of opened savonius rotor with 82 cm cover diameter and 1 meter height, gear for transmission with 1:3 gear ratio, and DC generator.<p> <br /> <br /> <br /> Prototype of wind energy conversion system that has been chosen was capable to produce electricity. It has output voltage 5-7 volt dc on 5 m/s wind velocity. Prototype of wind energy conversion system that has been chosen, just at certain time produce electricity for charging 6 volt batter
