Summary: | Images gained from google earth had some limitations such as there was no metadata concerning with used acquisition data and accuracy of provided images is unknown. The images could be downloaded by users with various methods and sizes of file storing. This study aimed at knowing image accuracy gained from google earth and its use for mapping of land parcels.
The study conducted at relatively flat with 5 meters interval contour and slope area with 60 meters interval contour. Images for the research were acquired by using 3 methods for each area, namely: screen, premium, and mosaic. Images of flat area were corrected by rectification and those of slope area were corrected by orthorectification. Digitization distance and areas results of corrected images were compared with results of measurement on the field and showed Root Mean Square Error (RMSe) of quickbird images gained from google earth for relatively flat area and relatively slope area.
Mosaic method can be used as alternative method for acquiring images with wider coverage of the area. Maps of images resulted from the research for relatively flat area of +76 Ha maximally had RMSe with 0.744m for 20 ICPs, 0.940m distance difference RMSe, 2.474% average of area difference. For relatively slope areas with +76 hectares maximum had RMSe 1.537m for 19 ICPs, distance difference RMSe 1.242m, average of area difference 2.680%.
