Description
Summary:Antiseptical lotion preparation formula containing chlorhexidine gluconate 2% (w/w) has been developed. The lotion was made with composition of olive oil, ceteareth-20, cetyl alcohol, glycerine, and water. Evaluation of lotion included: type of emulsion, organoleptic appearance, homogeneity, acidity, and viscosity for 20 days of storage. Globules size stability of lotion was tested by using 6 cycles of freeze and thaw method. Antimicrobial effectiveness of lotion was tested on a basis of reduction of both bacteria and fungi on volunteer's palms, before and after applying the lotion, which attached on agar medium of NA and SDA. Results showed that chlorhexidine gluconate 2% (w/w) lotion with base composition of olive oil 3% (w/w), ceteareth-20 2% (w/w), cetyl alcohol 2% (w/w), glycerine 3% (w/w), and water ad 100% (w/w), gave an oil in water (o/w) type of emulsion, homogenous, stable acidity, stable viscosity, and has a constant range of globule size. Antimicrobial effectiveness test showed reduction of bacterial number up to 90.15%, and of fungal number up to 90,88% by using 1 ml of lotion for 1 minute and followed by 1 minute hand washing.
