To increase hardness low carbon steel is added carbon at surface of material, also this process can make hard and strength also by surface heating treament. The process which is done is called carburization. For carburization, the material must be heated until carburising temperature. For heating the material can used carburization furnace. Most of furnace usually using double heating. It means after carburization, the material is reheating at austenization temperature which hold at several time, and then be cooled quickly, this process can have hard martensit at the material. He weakness of furnace with double heating is have long process, and make expensive price. To solve this problem it is designed, made and tested the furnace with single heating which coal consumption. This process can also increase the hardness of low carbon steel, with mean value of hardness is 56 HRC. Beside increasing the hardening, the furnace can also be able to process the direct quench. The price for hardening be lower and chipper, cause of time to process relative shortest. This furnace has tested to harden the convention nail to be the nail with high hardness. The capacity of this furnace is 18 kg/carburization. Time needed for the first carburization quenching is 140 minutes, for the next process is very quick, because the furnace is added with preheating cylinder, then the carburization may do continuously. So the furnace with single heating carburization process can also harden with direct quench. The consumption of coal is 13 kg, of carbon is 1,5 kg and of oil is 0,5 l. Or it is all about Rp 16.500,-. Because the hardening of steel is more hard than the nail, so it is needed the tempering process for decreasing the hardness and increasing the ductility of nail. text |
