| Summary: | Metco 307 NS3 is material normally used for top coat as this material endures from abrassive environment. Composition of material Metco 307 NS3 is 75% Nikel and 25% Graphite. PT. NTP, company working at service and maintenance of gas turbine engine, has been using this material for top coat application on Compressor Stator Stage 5 engine CT-7 by means of powder flame spray method. Begining year of 2006, PT NTP observed reduction in coating quality of Metco 307 NS3 applied on the Compressor Stator when powder flow rate was set up at 9 lbs/hr. PT NTP then do changed spray parameter from flow rate 9 lbs/hr to be 7.5 lbs/hr.<p>Purpose this research work is analyse the effect powder flow rate changes from 9.0 lbs/hr to 7.5 lbs/hr. Mechanical tests on coating matetial was conducted by means of hardness test with superficial rockwell 15Y and bond strength test. The Metco 307 NS3 powder were characterized by means of X-Ray Diffractometry, SEM and EDS. The result of this research show that coating material Metco 307 NS3 with powder flame spray method, flow rate 7.5 lbs/hr is better than 9 lbs/hr.<p>The result hardness mean at two test with flow rate 7.5 lbs/hr included between 30-50 HR15Y, agree with Sulzer Metco standard. Otherwise, the result hardness value at two spesimen with flow rate 9 lbs/hr outside range 30-50 HR15Y. The higgest hardness is 55.9 HR15Y and the lowest hardness 25.5 HR15Y. Minimum bond strength coating Metco 307 NS3 base on PCP 038TS standard is 750 psi. The average bond strength pressure result two testing, which every test with three spesimen with flow rate 7.5 pon/jam is 5784.64 psi and 5165.08 psi. Otherwise, the average value bond strength result two testing, which every test with three spesimen with flow rate 9 pon/jam is 3661.89 psi and 1965.86 psi.<p>Measuring size porosity at this research with intercept method. Average %volume porosity on coating Metco 307 NS3 with flow rate 7.5 lbs/hr is 53.8 and 41.8. Average %volume porosity on coating Metco 307 NS3 with flow rate 9 lbs/hr is 37.8 and 44.6. This research see distribution porosity on coating Metco 307 NS3. The result metallography compare with General Electric Standard Practices Manual Aircrafts Engine 70-71-04 standard. Coating Metco 307 NS3 with flow rate 7.5 lbs/hr and flow rate 9 lbs/hr are included that standard. |
