Description
Summary:Basically, molding is devided two kinds, permanent mold and semipermanent mold. Semipermanent mold is often found than permanent mold. Because of principal needed to the molding raws and efficiency of process production so many researches begin developing to increase quality of permanent mold. One of them is applying steel permanent mold for iron casting.

The aim of doing this research is to find the effect of thermal stress of permanent mold, find the good of pouring temperature in cast iron, and understanding to effect of coating in permanent mold.

We did the research by doing the experiment in Metals Industries Development Center. The cast iron FC 250 is freezed in Induction furnace at 1490 degrees C that has spesification 250 kg capacity,1200 Hz, 300 kW, 2400 volt AC. The molten cast iron then pour into the steel carbon medium 0,3% permanent mold that is preheated at 200 degrees C and coated one side of mold.

The results and conclusion in this research is getting the freezing time of cast iron in ladle and in steel permanent mold is 1,14 minute and 1,30 minute based of calculation and simulation. The pouring time is 3,15 second. The surface of casting result is good.
