Summary: | Utilization of alternative fuel for vehicle is necessary to be developed along with decrease the stock of crude oil. One of the altervatives is Vi-Gas, which is a kind of gaseous fuel for vehicle that is a reformulation of LPG (Liqified Petroleum Gas). Up to now, Vi-Gas is most widely used to gasoline engine. However, its application to diesel engine is also promising to be developed. The problem is on its high auto-igition temperature and ignition delay period, so its application still needed diesel fuel as pilot igniters. Hence, to the engine requires a control system that can adjust timing and the amount of Vi-Gas which is accorcance with the existing injection system of diesel fuel.<p>The control system is based on electronic principle by using PLC as the processing unit. PLC received input data about condition of engine operation from sensor and then transmits the actuation signal to injector. This modification is done on four cylinder diesel engine with 2446 cc capacity. The test is necessary to know the composition map of diesel fuel and Vi-Gas on specific rotation and load with considering phenomenon which could be happen on engine, like knocking and preignition. The percentage of Vi-Gas tends can be adjusted to increase along with the increasing of load with the minimum diesel fuel consumption. However, be accordance with increasing of speed, the percentage of Vi-Gas has a tendency to decrease. The highest composition of Vi-Gas on dual fuel can reach 90 %. |
