Summary: | The process of taking aerial photography by using UAV in rural or remote area are often facing difficulties in finding run way for takeoff and landing. VTOL UAV will be the practical solution for such problem. Another problems for single set rotor blades is the tendency of the body to begin spinning in the opposite direction to that of the rotors once take off. In addition, there is decrease of thrust when propeller rotating in open air. But, it is solved by adding duct system which is surrounding the propeller.
Purposes of the research are to understand the characteristic of coaxial rotor ducted fan by variating distance of propellers and by adding control surface in the outflow of duct. Propeller measure using reverse engineering digital methode, simulation using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and experiment using platform with 8 load cell which data stored and displayed on the computer. Thrust and yaw characteristic in coaxial rotor ducted fan is the increase of distance between propellers resulting at the tendency of increase of thrust and decrease of yaw. For pitch and roll characteristic, the moments increase along with the increase of angle of control surface and the direction proportion with the movement of control surface.
