Summary: | The human species is the only known source of culture on this planet, therefore the life of mankind is somewhat intertwined with their cultural values. The manifestation of human culture comes in three forms, they are: ideas, actions, and artefacts.
Indonesia consists of 33 provinces that streches from Sabang, all the way to Merauke. Each region holds their own tradition which varies greatly from one region to another. This type of diversity made Indonesia into the country it is today, a country rich with not just natural, but also cultural resources. Indonesia, being located in the south eastern part of asia, holds dearly to it's eastern values, along with other asean countries. These so called eastern values teach us that nature, humankind, and their culture must walk hand in hand.
South east asia in general, is a region located in the vast continent of asia that is renown for its exotic cultures. Consisting of 10 countries, Brunei Darussalam, Filipina, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Kamboja, and Singapore, the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) is an effort to form an alliance between south east asian countries in the fields of economy, politics and culture.
With the alliance intact, the Asean countries are closely connected to each other. The field of cultural exchange between asean countries will be the focus of this writing.
The wide variety of cultural manifestation in asean regions in the form of ideas, actions, and artefacts, suggest that a facility with the ability to accomodate these features is of high necessity. Therefore, the ASEAN Cultural Center is built to fulfill the duty of accomodating cultural activities, both physical and non-physical.
It is hoped that the ASEAN Cultural Center can bring about new spirit in the fields of cultural exchange.
