Description
Summary:Pervaporation is a membrane separation process where the separation is based on the different affinity of the components to the membrane. Pervaporation is effective for separating azeotrope mixture since the separation not based on liquid-vapor equilibrium. In the pervaporation of ethanol-water, the membrane used has to be hydrophilic and selective. Nowadays, zeolite membrane is widely used for dehydration ethanol with pervaporation since it has good hydrophilicity and stability.

The purpose of this study is to get zeolite NaA membrane that suitable for ethanol-water pervaporation. Beside that, the pervaporation performance of zeolite membrane NaA was intensively investigated. Zeolite membrane was prepared by hydrotermal synthesis from a gel as zeolit raw material placed in contact with the support surface and then heated. The variation of this study are gel concentration, synthesis methode, and operation condition of pervapoation like feed flow rate at 300, 1000, and 1500 cm3/minute and temperature at 25, 40, dan 60 degrees C.

In this study, the zeolite NaA membrane was prepared by hydrothermal synthesis that can be used for ethanol pervaporation. However the pervaporation performance and the membrane is far from satisfaction. The flux and selectivity were affected by both feed flow rate and operating temperature.
