Indonesia Theses Bandung Metropolitan Area, polycentric urban structure, school trip, spatial mismatch INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/11316 Spatial mismatch hypothesis is the phenomenon of a spatial discrepancy between settlement and growth centers, particularly the location of the workplace. This has caused work trip become more longer in distance, more longer in time, and require greater transportation cost. The studies taken for spatial mismatch all around the world inclined to emphasizing on work trip. Hence, the routin movement that provides a significant impact on traffic movement systems in big cities in Indonesia is not only work trip but also school trip. There are already several studies that shows that in Bandung Metropolitan Area, compared to the work trip, school trip patterns have connection with urban structure. Therefore, it is become interesting to test the spatial mismatch on school trip in Bandung Metropolitan Area. First, because on school trip, decision to choose their residence is made by their parents. Secondly, the different school quality in Indonesia. Based on the research done by Hermawan, it is known that about 25% students at favourite school in Bandung came from outside the city of Bandung despite the fact the tendency of Bandung Metropolitan Area is polycentric urban structure. This study analyzes the pattern of school utilization in the satellite cities in Bandung Metropolitan Area and observing the impact on the movement patterns. This analysis meant to measure how large spatial mismatch on school trip occurring in Bandung Metropolitan Area, and how the function of the satellite city as a subcenter of a polycentric urban structure in Bandung Metropolitan Area. Based on the results of the primary survey data analysis on the 475 households (598 school trip) in the satellite cities (and its surrounding) in Bandung Metropolitan Area, the analysis concludes on two main conclusions. First, the spatial mismatch that occurred in the study area based on the levels of education. Secondly, based on the orientation of the school trip, only Jatinangor/Tanjungsari which have started functioning as a satellite city and a subcenter of education services to the surrounding area, despite the educational level only consists of the elementary education and junior high schools. text |
