KAJIAN ETNOFARMAKOLOGI, KEAMANAN, DAN EFIKASI JUKUT CARULANG [ELEUSINE INDICA (L.) GAERTN., POACEAE] SEBAGAI ANALGETIKA

Traditional knowledge of nature materials used for medicines needs to be conserved and taken to research for assuring its safety and drugs efficacy. Safety assay and analgesic study of aqueous extract of jukut carulang [Eleusine indica (L.) Gaertn., Poaceae] were conducted since the extract had been used by natives of Kampung Naga, Tasikmalaya, Jawa Barat to relieve headache as eye-drops. Ethnopharmacology study comprised interview with natives and sample-taking of plant and traditional dosage form of jukut carulang in Kampung Naga. Laboratory study included Draize test in rabbits to determine eye irritation and Siegmund test in mice to evaluate analgesic activity of jukut carulang. Aqueous extract of jukut carulang was also characterized and screened. Traditional dosage form of jukut carulang from Kampung Naga did not cause irritation to rabbits eyes. Analgesic test showed that there are no significant differences in decrement percentage of writhing in water extract of jukut carulang at dose 0.65 g/kg, 1.3 g/kg, and 2.6 g/kg compared to control (p<0,05). Water extract of jukut carulang (Eleusine indica) contains flavonoid. <br />
