Summary: | AIDS is still a deadly disease which already spreads all over the world. So far, there is no effective treatment to treat the disease. Dinkes report at the end of 2005 about the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Bandung shows that 63 percent of them are contributed by Injecting Drug Users (IDU). IDU is considered as high risk population for HIV/AIDS prevalence due to the habit of needle sharing. A strategy to reduce HIV and AIDS infections through harm reduction program becomes more important in the national AIDS control program. In this final project, mathematical models for the spreads of HIV/AIDS with harm reduction and ARV therapy are being discussed. From this model the basic reproduction numbers are obtained, which then can be used to analyze the dynamic of the disease. It is shown that needle exchange program and methadone therapy could reduce HIV population in Bandung if the ratio between needle supply and recruitment rate IDU; and the rate of increasing IDU who join methadone therapy are increased. |
