Summary: | Satellite altimetry technique has a great significance to be applied in various physical oceanography studies of Indonesia waters. The ocean/sea tide model information becomes an important issue in data reduction. The tide information is usually obtained from global tide models, however, these type of models are not fit to the regional tidal characteristics. Geographically, the Indonesian waters consist of open-deep oceans and narrow-shallow seas. Therefore, a regional tides model is required in order to improve quality of sea level data derives from altimetry. The research is initiated by investigating feasibility on the application of Topex and Jason-1 satellite altimetry missions for regional ocean tide modelling purpose.
Harmonic analysis using least square method of 13 years of Topex and Jason-1 alongtrack altimetry is performed to derive the semidiurnal, diurnal and long-period tides in Indonesian waters. There are difference between the ascending and descending solution in each constituent. Even though if we using that solution in tides prediction, it will show good agreement.
