The research on polymer modified concrete, with copolymer natural rubber styrene as modifier, had been conducted by varying polymer content in a concrete mix. The polymer composition was varied between 1% and 10%, based on cement weight in the mixture. The strength and durability of each modified concretes were tested and then compared to those of normal concrete. From the test results, the strength and durability of concrete samples were varying, positive effect from the addition of polymer was achieved when the polymer content was less than 5% (compared to normal concrete). Above 5% polymer content, the strength and durability of concrete decreased. The optimum value of polymer content had been observed at 1%. At this level, the compressive strength increased by 30%, flexural strength increased by 5% and splitting tensile strength increased about 26%. The durability also increased about 40%, the abrasion resistant increased 40% and diffusion coefficient of chloride increased about 43%. text |
