SPATIAL LAND USE GUIDELINES AS INPUT TO CONTROL LANDSLIDES DISASTER IN GUNUNG KIDUL REGENCY (CASE STUDY: GEDANG SARI DISTRICT)

It's a fact that every rainy season in Gedangsari Distric there would be land movements. The question is what the main cause of the land movements, is it caused by the sensitivity of land movements or by inappropriate spatial land use? Based on these facts, the aim of study is to discover level of local sensitivity and vulnerability related to land movements and the appropriate spatial land use.<p>The analysis proces involved three steps: first to asses the level of sensitivity by overlaying land slope maps, geological maps and land use maps; secondly asses level of vulnerability by overlaying of infrastructure maps, population maps and economics activity maps; and the third step is to discover local characteristics by combining level of sensitivity and vulnerability of the land movements.<p>Based on the analysis result, generally the study area was dominated by low to medium level of sensitivity while the level of vulnerability was distributed from very low to high level. It's shown that the land movements mainly caused by inappropriate land use. The spatial land use recommendation was developed base on the local characteristics combined with level of land movements sensitivity and vulnerability without neglecting the economics activitiy considerations to assure that the inhabittans still have opportunity to achieve prosperity but still can reduce the local vulnerability. The study hopefully contribute to the land use pattern by the community and also become one of local government consideration in the local development planning. <br />
