VARIASI TEMPORAL DAN SPASIAL TEMPERATUR DAN SALINITAS SERTA KAITANNYA DENGAN KEJADIAN FRONT DI SELAT MALAKA

Front identification in Malacca Strait is identified by using vertical and horizontal structure of temperature and salinity. Vertical structures are obtained from cross section profile by using Ocean Data View (ODV). The data are based on World Ocean Atlas (WOA) 2001 monthly average data. The result...

Vertical structures are obtained from cross section profile by using Ocean Data View (ODV). The data are based on World Ocean Atlas (WOA) 2001 monthly average data. The result from data processing showed some varies of temperature and salinity in every month. Temperature ranges between 22-31 degrees C where the lowest temperature occur in March, 24.91 degrees C, while the highest temperature occur in June, 30.87 degrees C. The salinity ranges between 27-35 psu, where the lowest salinity occur in November, 28.74 psu, and the highest is in January, 34.55 psu. Chlorophyll-a concentration in coastal is high mostly in estuary, and in the middle of Malacca Strait between 2.5- 3.5 degrees N. In general identification, front is identified in east monsoon where stratified water mass converge with homogenous water mass, that located in the middle of the Malacca Strait between 2.5-3.5 degrees N region. The occurrence of front is appropriate with high chlorophyll-a concentration based on satellite images of Aqua Modis in 2001, high concentration of nutrient based on field measurement of P2O-LIPI on August-September in 2001, high fishing at east monsoon in Malacca Strait (P2O-LIPI, 2001) and also appropriate with Simpson's critical parameter (log10(H/U3) Kasman (2006)), where located in area that have contour less than 3.0, which called tidal front area. text
