| Summary: | Correlation study of spectrophotometric determination of rifampicin in aqueous solution compared to microbiological potency determination and analysis of the degradation products have been carried out. It was shown that there was a correlation between the concentration and potency, except in strong alkaline solution. Rifampicin quinone and two other rifampicin degradation products supposed to be 3-formyl rifamycin and 25-desacetyl rifampicin have been isolated. The three degradation products have lower potency than that of rifampicin. |
