Description
Summary:The latest development of wireless technology has put a demanding change into Indonesia's entertainment businesses, one of which is dominated by television. The television broadcasting standard is to be replaced at least in two years with the new digital terrestrial television which uses Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial (DVB-T) broadcast standard. DVB-T uses Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) multiplexing-modulation to broadcast the signal through the air as the wireless medium.

At the receiver's end, broadcasted signal contains defects caused by noise, reflections, etc. Those defects cause time and frequency offset in the signal. OFDM, on the other hand, has several features to compensate and correct the imperfections by adding cyclic prefix (CP) in front of each symbol of the signal.

After going through antenna and Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC), synchronizer module is required to correct the time and frequency offset inflicted during transmission. This final project is intended to design the synchronizer hardware module which can be tested and verified using certain models. The outcome of the project is synthesizable and can be integrated into the larger receiver module of DVB-T.

The designing process of this synchronizer is mainly based on the algorithm of previously developed WiMAX synchronizer. However, this DVB-T synchronizer does not have the frame detection and can only mark the beginning of symbols.

The final result of this project is that the designed synchronizer still has little glitch which caused a slight deviation of frequency offset compensation. Until the end, this glitch still can not be verified since the output references have not been corrected entirely. However, the overall functionality has fulfilled the basic purpose of the synchronization algorithm.
