Description
Summary:So far, the application of industrial technology was thought as a process that has effective and efficient orientation only, so the impact to the environment is neglected. A green technology can be started from chosen the right materials as sources. Using a waste as a source in industrial technology application is an interesting topic to conduct as a research and developed continuously.
The aim of this research is to investigate the usage of chicken eggshell as alternative energizer in pack carburizing process. The influence of using this energizer to the activated carbon and non-activated carbon is also investigated. The research method is started from grinding the charcoal (coconut and wood) and eggshell and then mixing up the charcoal and energizer, in exact composition to know the most effective composition. And then, specimens within those compositions are carburized, and after that, hardening process to the specimen is done. The product characterizations are micro structure analysis and micro Vickers hardness testing.
The results indicated that chicken eggshell waste can be used as energizer in pack carburizing process. It is found that 10% wt energizer addition to charcoal is the most effective composition, with ECD values are 0,97 mm (activated carbon) and 0,69 mm (non-activated carbon). The degree of energizer efficacy in activated carbon is 2,15 and 1,10 in non-activated carbon.
