THE USE OF RICE HUSKS IN PACK CARBURIZATION PROCESS WITH BLOOD COCKLES SHELL (ANADARA GRANOSA) AS ENERGIZER

For that reason, rice husks have been an object of research for gasification reactor's fuel in ITB's Thermodynamic Laboratory. The principle of gasification is to convert charcoal from the pyrolysis of biomass (rice husks) to become flammable carbon monoxide gas. As CO gas known as carbon carrier in the pack carburization process, then this experiment use rice husks as carbon source.
There are three steps on this experiment. The first two steps are to determine treatments to rice husks as other pack carburization media usually have. The result is that rice husks doesn't need to be pyrolized first because it automatically happened during carburization. Particle refinement of rice husks doesn't give any significant effect to the result. In that case, this experiment use rice husks as it is directly from the rice mill.
Experiment step III is using Blood Cockles shell as energizer to see whether there is any effect for addition of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50%wt to rice husks media. Result shows that 10%wt addition of Blood Cockles shell optimally enhance hardness to 887 HV0,2 in 0.1 mm penetration and 0.79 mm Effective Case Depth. text
