Summary: | In this final project, we discuss a mathematical model of drop formation of a viscous liquid jet. A one dimensional model is developed under assumptions that axial velocity and the pressure in the jet are constant over the cross section of the axisym-metric stream and only dependent on axial coordinate z and time t. The resulting equations are then used for both linear and nonlinear studies. In the linear form, the model provides stream stability; the viscous force tends to delay the jet break-up. For the nonlinear form, numerical simulations are carried out to study the formation of a satellite drop, a drop with small volume fraction. Results show that the viscous force also plays an important role in drop formation of this jet. |
