People usually use this plant as a traditional medicine. Low content of secondary metabolites in P.niruri is a bottleneck to use and develop this plant. It is needed a method to increase the quantity and uniformity of the secondary metabolites from this plants. This research had been done to study the production of secondary metabolites using cell culture of P. niruri. Tissue culture was used as a method to produce callus. The callus was infected by Agrobacterium rhizogenes ATCC 15834. Secondary metabolite contents of callus, Agrobacterium–infected callus and original plants, had further been analyzed. Extractions were done by methanol. The methanol was evaporated and the residues were extracted by dichloromethane. The dichloromethane layer was analyzed by thin layer chromatography (TLC). The result showed the difference of TLC profile between callus Agrobacterium-infected callus and original plants of P. niruri. Spectrophotodensitometer data showed an increasing in one of secondary metabolite. text |
