Summary:Puting beliung has becoming a new and well-known issue for some past few years. Because of the happening in a such short period time with no first notice, it often made people surprised. Puting beliung also causing many financial lose and might be some dead. This thing is also came periodically so that it can be categorized as a periodic disaster.<br /> This research is mainly concerned with the characteristic of puting beliung in Indonesia. By gathering the statistics data from puting beliung news in internet and newspaper, we'll be able to know the general spatial and temporal pattern about puting beliung in Indonesia. Moreover, statistic analysis shown that most of puting beliung is always begin with the present of heavy rain(shower). This characteristic shows us that almost all puting beliung can be connected with a downburst. Synoptic condition shown by FNL (Final Analysis) global data then compared between the day puting beliung happen and when it's not. Precipitable water anomaly then shows that puting beliung is happen on the day which is drier. To study atmospheric dynamics on the day puting beliung happen, simulation using WRF model then done on Kediri puting beliung, East Java at December 16, 2007. The results shown that there was a huge of watervapor mass thus scale locally above East Java on the day puting beliung happen. This mass then conclude as the fuel of heavy rain that happen seconds before puting beliung. Simulation results also shown that the puting beliung is mainly caused by a downburst effect from the Cumulonimbus cloud base. The cloud formed as the caused of a strong local scale convection which fast enough to build and extinct the cloud in approximately less then an hour. The results also show that the downburst effect is not always caused by big and thick-stature Cumulonimbus cloud.
