Summary: | Lycopodium is a genus belonging to Lycopodiaceae family of plant. In Indonesia, Lycopodium is localy known as paku kawat plant. Lycopodium is commonly used as traditional medicine. This genus also contains alkaloid compounds having unique structures and interesting biological and biogenetical aspects. Alkaloid compounds from Lycopodium genus, known as lycopodium alkaloid, are quinolizine, pyridine, and a-pyiridone type. Lycopodium alkaloids are classified into four structural classes, i.e. lycopodine, lycodine, fawcettimine, and miscellaneous groups. The research on Lycopodium alkaloids showed that the compounds are potential to be used as Alzheimer's and myasthenia gravis disseases. However, investigations on lycopodium alkaloid from Indonesian Lycopodium are still limited. Lycopodium clavatum and species are chosen to represent Indonesian Lycopodium plant. In this research, lycopodine and L20 compounds have been isolated from Lycopodium clavatum. Both of those compounds belong to the lycopodine group. Lycopodine has also been isolated from L. lopecuroides, L. alpinum, L. annottinum, and L. carolinum. While L20 compound was also found in L. clavatum var. borbonicum and L. serratum. Furthermore, two pure compounds have been yielded from Lycopodium cernuum, however the structures have not yet identified. Isolated lycopodium alkaloids compounds were obtained from MeOH extract of each species by using various chromatography techniques. Then, the structures of the compounds were analized by using 1H-NMR data. |
