Summary:Nickel phosphorus (Ni-P) electroplating is nickel and phosphorus deposition method on the metal surface using an external source of electric current. The depositions were done in a watt solution containing sodium hypophosphite. The most application of Ni-P deposition on carbon steel is in industry, due to it corrosion resistance, hardness, and decorative appearance.<p> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The experiments of Ni-P electroplating done at pH range 2.2 to 2.6, have shown that the variation of hypophosphite concentration at 20 gpl, 30 gpl, 40 gpl, and bath temperature variation at 70oC and 80oC, would affect the deposition rate. It can be concluded from the experiments that increasing hypophosphite concentration and bath temperature would results in the increasing of the deposition rate.<p> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Phosphorus composition analysis of Ni-P deposit from this electroplating process vary from 9.9 to 13.52 %-wt P, depends on the hypophosphite concentration in electrolyte bath and area of the analyzed deposit. Erosion corrosion test for 162 hours have shown that heat treated Ni-P deposit has a better corrosion erosion resistance compared to the carbon steel without Ni-P plating and heat treatment.
