Description
Summary:Membrane technology process that does not requires any addition of chemicals and less energy is well suitable for biomass separation. Poly(methylmethacrylate) membrane was prepared by phase inversion method, with dimethylformamide as a solvent and distillate water as the non-solvent. Characterization of membrane included permeability and permselectivity determination, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), and Fourier Transformed Infra Red (FTIR) spectroscopy. The result showed that membrane PMMA 15% (w/v) had water permeability of 5,5 Lm-2h-1bar-1 and MWCO less than 10,000 Dalton. Membrane water permeability and MWCO decreased with increasing concentration of polimer. Rejection coefficient 89,64 % of bovine serum albumin 200 ppm (pH 7), flux 8,03 L/m2h observed from membrane with composition poly(metilmethacrylate)-dimethylformamide 15 % (w/v). Specific activity of enzyme increase to 21,05 U/mg protein after purified using membrane PMMA 15 % (w/v). SEM result shown that PMMA membrane is classified as ultrafiltration, asymmetric porous membrane.
