Description
Summary:In this research, methyl-acetyl-ricinoleic has been succesfully synthesized. This compound was synthesized by 2 (two) reaction steps, there were including transesterification and acetylation. Transesterification of castor oil was carried out by mixing oil : methanol : CH3ONa at 60 oC for 2 hours with about 63,72 % - 81,27 % yield. Methyl ricinoleic then was taken into acetylation process with acetic acid anhydride reagents using HClO4 catalyst. The recovery percentage generated is about 96,58 % - 101,26 %. All products was characterized by infra red spectroscopy. Addition 5 % of acetyl methyl ricinoleic in palm biodiesel depressed cloud point about 4,5 oC. This research also successfully produced acid ricinoleic as a formation precursor of ricinoleic oligomer. This compound is obtained through the hydrolysis reaction of methyl ricinoleic with about 33,50 % - 62,81 % yield. The ricinoleic acid produced then will be taken into oligomerization process in toluene and HClO4 as catalyst. The compounds was characterized using the acid value and infra red spectroscopy. The mixing test of the compounds produced through oligomerization, which is about 5 % in composition yield cloud point reduction about 2 oC.
