Description
Summary:A component or functional product has design specifications to fulfill to guaranty product performance. One of the specification is dimension and tolerance specification. Toleranting activity needs collaboration between engineering and manufacturing to be able to meet design specification, and at the same time, to minimized production cost and quality loss.<p>Product performance influence the consumer satisfaction, hence product design tolerating have to regarding consumer preference to the product. In this research, consumer preference modeled through product utility function. Utility product approached with quadratic quality loss function.<p>In this research, a dimension tolerating optimization model developed regarding product utility involving machine alternatives for production processes. The objective value used in the developed model is producer profit, constrained by designed tolerance and machines accuracy tolerances of each machine alternatives involved.<p>Model solved using optimization software. The developed model tested using a hypothetic case and the explicit solution verified toward constrains used in this research. To represent that the model satisfy the real system, a validation conducted through sensitivity analysis method. From the series of the research activity, concluded that model can represent the real system if a complete data available. <br />
