Summary: | Strategy for process design is usually aimed at optimizing cost, quality, and delivery. This strategy becomes more a significant issue in make-to-order (MTO; manufacturing system. The limitation is not only from resources which are determined by company but as well from design specification determined by customer.
Cost, quality, and delivery are not always convergent. Trade off between those three criteria must be conducted by optimizing resources limitation and design specification. Some scenarios might be considered and the one selected will be the scenario with minimum cost. This thesis deals with process design optimization model. The model is aimed at finding minimum production cost which is constrained by quality (tolerances), and delivery (due date). In this research, the appraisal cost is also included. There are two appraisal cost components considered, i.e. cost of inspection-correction and cost of finishing.
On the assembly product, cost of inspection and correction are occurred in relation with the needs of the parts to be fitted with each other. Nevertheless, in order to avoid defect products delivered to customer, inspection-correction process needs to be done, but it will increase production cost. The inspection-correction process must be done for finished product. The finishing process was done after all of process completed, so that product can be used and this process emerge finishing cost.
This model is implemented and validated using data at crimper product produced by CV.CSM. The result of implementation leads to a conclusion that this model provides optimizing result for composing the process design strategy.
