TRANSESTERIFICATION PALM-OIL BY HETEROGENEOUS URUSHIBARA-Fe

Production of biodiesel from plant-oil as an alternative fuel has become potential industry because of the decreasing crude-oil deposit. However the industries which generally produce biodiesel from the transesterification reaction of plant-oil with methanol using base catalyst (KOH/NaOH) at tempe...

However the industries which generally produce biodiesel from the transesterification reaction of plant-oil with methanol using base catalyst (KOH/NaOH) at temperature around the boiling point of methanol, often faced with problems which increase cost production. The main problem is that the KOH/NaOH catalyst, as a homogeneous catalyst, which interacts well and relatively soluble in the reactants and products, is difficult to separate in the end of the process, and therefore cannot be easily reproduced. In addition, at the relatively high working temperature (60-70 oC) using the base KOH/NaOH catalyst, some oils undergone saponification reaction which reduces the efficiency of the process is very possible. These problems have attracted many researchers to work towards finding new catalyst that is, to find insoluble catalyst or heterogeneous catalyst system. text
