Description
Summary:Water containing more calcium and magnesium ions higher than 17.1 ppm is called a hard water. These ions in water will give bad effect not only to human body but also to industry. In the body, these ions cause precipitation of lime in kidney and urethra. And for industry, these will cause lime precipitation on drain-pipes or steam boilers. The level of hardness in water can be reduced through ion exchange process by using Zeolite. Zeolite is alumino silicate compound that can be formed naturally and synthetically. Water softening of hard water can be done by exchange the Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions with Na+ ions in Zeolite mineral.
