| Summary: | Golek puppetry’s characters have its distinctive side that could not be found in other
popular characters in the context of the meaning behind its form. Moreover, it has
more advantage compared to another wayang (Indonesian puppetry) in its 3
dimensional form and richness of visualization, especially after the reformation by
Giriharja group. Golek puppetry usually performed with Ramayana or Mahabarata
story derived from India, complete with different personalities of characters within the
story. There are characters that play the good behavior, but there are also characters
that play bad behavior. Golek puppetry has its own measurement for the relation
between the personality of a character and its visual appearance, making golek
puppetry as an entertainment with spirit. This research tries to take the measurement
of personality and visual appearance to the game characters world.
The methods used in this research are based on research and development method,
implementing research on the side of golek and developing characters based on the
research conclusion. The research itself implementing qualitative methodology,
explaining data and try to find solutions. Moreover, this research is equipped with
preliminary data-collection and narratives about golek and characters derived from
literatures and interviews.
A result from this research is a new kind of characters that have its distinctive side
compared to usual characters in the gaming world. Uniqueness is come out from the
distinctive side of golek puppetry in performing visual form that’s match with the
personality of the characters performed. |
