Description
Summary:Arsenic can be detected colorimetrically towards spots of Gutzeit test using digital color analysis technology. It was remarked that the colour of the spots varied from yellow to black, depending on arsenic content. The higher arsenic concentration, the higher the spots’ instensity. Spot speciments were scanned with canoLIDE25 scanner with high resolution (300 dpi). Spots were then divided into nine grids to make easier the colour intensities tracing. The use of Eyedropper Tool facility in Corel Photo-Paint X3 made colour composition tracing of each grid of spot test paper became easier. The spots having an optimum intensity were chosen to be the object of tracing. The obtained colour composition data were then analyzed by the aid of Microsoft Excel 2007, to reveal quantitative correlation arsenic concentration as the function of intensity for each colour composition (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black (CMYK)). The experiment showed that any difference in arsenic concentration, caused the variation of CMYK colour intensities. Colour composition tracing towards spots was done after 1 and 10 days of spot test was carried out. The result showed semiquantitative correlation, with correlation coefficient (R2) were 0,971 and 0,893, respectively. Black colour intensities increased with the concentration. It was remarked that black colour intensities in spot speciments increased, as revealed by Corel Photo-Paint X3. A hipothetic sample was prepared and analyzed, using the same treatment as arsenic standard. One day after spot test was done, the arsenic sample was found to have a recovery percentage of 104%.
