Summary: | Until now, chart datum defined as an Admiralty method that use nine tidal components (which is M2, S2, N2, K2, K1, O1, P1, M4, and MS4). This method was adopted from "Netherland" period in Indonesia. In fact, more than 300 components has been known even before that. The main idea of this document is to explain "the 9 components" and how much it affects chart datum in Indonesia, which has many variety of Ocean characteristic.

In order to do that, it is needed to know which is the most suitable tidal, then choose which chart datum to use (according to IHO standard). The defined chart datum must be tested by comparing it to "the calculated" one and "low water value" prediction.

The result of all the whole process can be used in Indonesian Ocean, because it is now identical to the one that use recommended method (IHO method that use between 5-6 components). In Indonesia, the chart datum uses at least 5 tide components. We can conclude that there is at least 5 components that affects which chart datum can be used. They are M2, K1, S2, O1, and P1. |
