PROPERTIES OF AMYLASE OF Pseudomonas saccharophila ISOLATED FROM A GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT OF EARTHWORM Perionyx excavatus

The research on amylases has been widely conducted. Since 2007, the research on amylases isolated from the local earthworm Perionyx excavatus has been conducted in Biochemistry Laboratory, Study Program of Chemistry, Institut Teknologi Bandung. These amylases showed several interesting properties, s...

Since 2007, the research on amylases isolated from the local earthworm Perionyx excavatus has been conducted in Biochemistry Laboratory, Study Program of Chemistry, Institut Teknologi Bandung. These amylases showed several interesting properties, such as their ability to act on raw starches, their pH stability in a range of pH 3-12, and their activity in the temperature up to 55oC. The possibilities of symbion microorganism -living in a gastrointestinal tract of earthworm- producing amylases have also been investigated. It showed that microbes producing amylases had been found. In this research, the microbe was identified by the analysis of conventional microbiology and the analysis of gene encoding the 16S rRNA. Then amylases from the microorganisms were purified and characterized. text
