The purpose of agropolitan area development is to improve the welfare of the people. It is expected that the program has positive impacts to the farmer.<p>The research aimed to find out what is the influence of agropolitan program to improve of horticulture business and how extensive the business can increase profit and public welfare in Tanah Datar Regency especially in Agropolitan Area. In specific, the assessment involves 3 (three) aspect in terms of firm system, processing and marketing of agricultural product and institution system. A simple random survey of farmers was conducted with 250 samples from 3 (three) in Koto Baru Village, Paninjauan Village and Panyalaian Village. These villages were selected because of its land suitability for horticulture product, infrastructure availability and domination of vegetable in each area. Using a descriptive analytical method, the data and the field observation results are analyzed. A business loss-profit calculation is also used as a tool of assessment.<p>Agropolitan program impacts are variously to the horticulture business in X Koto District as related to aspects and indicators of horticultural business. Impacts of agropolitan program are mainly increasing the skill of farmers, qualities of marketing facilities improvement, and farmer organization and institution development.<p>In general agropolitan program has not significantly affected the development of farm business or improved the profit and public welfare. Thus, it is recommended that improvement of managerial skill and financial knowledge skill in farm sector, must be done. Activating Agribusiness Sub Terminal (STA) and increasing the capacity of market in Koto Baru Village would be needed. Accelerating transformation of traditional institution to be a modem and advanced organization for support of horticulture business would be valuable. <br /> <br /> text
