The challenge then, lies in achieving benefit from newer and more cost-effective technologies and at the same time being innovative in generating new services that are well-adopted by the users. Hence, renewing the technology at the right time becomes an important problem to deal with.<p>One decision variable involved in the decision of technology renewal is the technology selection. Essentially, the decision of technology selection is a multi criteria decision making problem involving financial and non-financial factors. The decision of technology selection is a complex and dynamic decision problem because most parameters affecting the decision are constantly changing. Moreover, the decision involves uncertainties, inadequate information, and subjective factors which cannot be easily quantified.<p>This thesis aims to develop a decision model of technology selection integrating Brown-Gibson model, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), and fuzzy set theory. Brown-Gibson model equipped with AHP provides a holistic framework for evaluation of financial factors and non-financial factors influencing the decision of technology selection. Fuzzy concept is used to overcome uncertainties and impreciseness embedded in the technology selection decision making. The model proposed here uses triangular fuzzy numbers.<p>The model is then implemented in two different cases. First, the model is implemented to solve a problem with hypothetical data from previous research. Second, the model is applied to help in the decision making of technology selection of telephony system ITB. The results for the first case are consistent with those obtained from the model in previous research. For the second case, there are two technology options considered in order to replace currently PABX system, namely hybrid PBX system and integrated IP-PBX system. The result of analysis shows that generally, integrated IPPBX system surpasses hybrid PBX system. text |
