DESIGN OF SMALL SCALE WIND ENERGY CONVERSION SYSTEM FOR ILLUMINATING PURPOSES
In this thesis we report the design of prototype of small scale wind energy conversion using a simple and cheap fan motor for electric generator. Blades were made of PVC pipes of 4 inches in diameter and 45 cm in radius. The generator was position horizontally at an elevation of about 5 m above the...

Blades were made of PVC pipes of 4 inches in diameter and 45 cm in radius. The generator was position horizontally at an elevation of about 5 m above the ground at Rancaekek area, Bandung. An electric rectifier was also design to convert alternating current from the generator into direct current used to charge batteries. The batteries were used to light lamps from white LEDs fos special purpose in night. Using a wind of velocity about 2,78 m/s we can obtain a saving capasitance of about 167,2 mAh. This capacitance is enough to light a lamp consisting of 5 LEDs for about 2-2,5 hours in a normal reading illumination. This system is potential for use in remote area where the electric facility is not available. It is expected that by adding more generator, higher saving capacitance of electric energy can be achieved to light more lamps. text |
