ISOLATION OF BACTERIUM PRODUCING XYLANASE FROM WORKERS OF TERMITE Reticulitermes santonensis AND CHARACTERIZATION OF THE XYLANASE

Xylanase is an enzyme hydrolyzing xylan. The enzyme belongs to two main types: B-xylosidase and endoxylanase widely used in industrial applications such as biobleaching pulp, food functional production, food processing, feed nutrition improvement, and lignocellulosic material biodegradation. Xylan-a...

The enzyme belongs to two main types: B-xylosidase and endoxylanase widely used in industrial applications such as biobleaching pulp, food functional production, food processing, feed nutrition improvement, and lignocellulosic material biodegradation. Xylan-a xylanase substrate- is the major components of hemicelluloses (heteropoly-saccharides) having a chain of B-1,4-linked xylopyranose residues. The xylan is abundant renewable resources from agricultural wastes such corn cob containing 40% dry weight of xylan. These hemicellulolytic materials are naturally degraded by termites that secrete hemicellulolytic enzymes or digestive enzymes from simbionts living in their gastrointestinal tract. This study reports on the isolation workers of termite Reticulitermes santonensis bacterium producing xylanase and characterization of xylanase features. A growth medium containing corn cob xylan (arabinoxylan) as solely carbon source was used to screen the isolates. <br /> text
